Abstract: 

The paper considers the project of an information system to support decision-making on the investigation of accidents in railway transport. The purpose of the system is to accelerate and facilitate the investigation of incidents. The system is proposed to be considered as consisting of three interrelated parts: a subsystem for collecting and systematizing primary information, a subsystem for analyzing information and forming hypotheses, and a subsystem for forming final documents. The first subsystem involves the use of a relational DBMS to systematize the collected information. The second is an expert system (ES) for constructing and testing hypotheses about the causes of the incident. The third is designed to speed up the procedure for preparing final documents based on the results of the investigation.
